Melchizedek and Abraham

Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought our bread and wine, and being a priest of God Most High, he blessed Abram with these words: “ blessed be Abram by God Most High, the creator of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who delivered your foes into your hand." Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything. (Genesis 14:18-20)

As the two walked on together, Isaac spoke to his father Abraham “ Father... Here are the fire and the wood, but where is the sheep for the holocaust?” “ Son,” Abraham answered, “ God himself will provide the sheep for the holocaust.”…when they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built an altar there and…tied up his son Isaac, and put him on top of the wood on the altar…but the Lord’s messenger called to him…” I know now how devoted you are to God, since you did not withhold from me your own beloved son.”…Abraham…spied a ram caught…in the thicket. So he…offered it up as a holocaust in place of his son.  (Genesis 22, 7-13)
