Who Are these Knights?
We are the men who sit near you at Mass throughout the year. Our Order urges us to reach for, and live by, the basic values of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism and it is our Council that provides the structure to put these values to work.
We conduct an annual Charity Night to honor and contribute to local organizations who have done so much to provide food, clothing, furniture and shelter to those in our Community who are in need. Our members have repaired approved access ramps, performed required maintenance and been responsive to request from those with disabilities and require assistance. Our Council purchased and provided new Wheel Chairs at each of our 4 local parishes (St. John, St. Mary, St. Anne and St. Catherine).
Our Unity is expressed when our men gather to pray the Rosary, attend Mass together or, conduct Special Needs events, or support at The Paul Center for Learning and Recreation (in Chelmsford). It's there where we host the Annual Special Needs Fair on the grounds of the Center. We have also painted and repaired many of the buildings that these "Kids" use for projects and recreation. Each spring our members support the Special Needs Prom, conducted by area Councils for this Community. Also, multiple times during the year our Council host Special Needs Bowling which brings "Kids" to an afternoon of fun, exercise and Pizza! Their laughter and joy is amazing. Our unity is also on display when our members travel to Washington in January in support of the annual March for Life.
Our Council honors the value of Fraternity through our work with a variety of charitable organizations who conduct events that we care deeply about. Our members are quick to collect for the "Tootsie Roll Drive" each fall. This money is consolidated by our Knights of Columbus State Office who then evaluate high expense Special Need request from Councils. Awards are made based on case merit (Council budgets generally can't afford high expense items such as approved Special Need.... ramps, computers, modifications to vehicles etc). Our Fraternity is again seen each spring as we visit the St Benedict Abby in Harvard for an evening of personal reflection and prayer. It is most prominent however when we dine out with other Knights and families at restaurants who then send donations to worthy causes in the name of Charity. We also take time to have fun as a group on our "Social Nights" and at our Christmas "Yankee Swap".
Grant that we never forget our promise of Patriotism. Not only do we begin each business meeting by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, we also make certain to honor our Veterans through donations to local groups and by remembering our fallen Veterans at Christmas each year by supporting the Wreaths Across America program. Our volunteers assist in placing these wreathes at the headstones of our Veterans.
If you are a Catholic Man — 18 years or older — and in good standing with the Church, there is no valid reason why you are NOT a Knight. Becoming a Member is easy. The cost is $50 for your first year and $40 each succeeding year. You are never required to attend meetings or participate in events. Simply read the Newsletter we send you each month by email, and volunteer for whatever interests you. Again, to join us, click on the above "Join the Knights" Link.
